The rooms of SoliSpot reflect the path through which I myself grew into rod building.
As a child I often stood in my father’s workshop and watched him develop specialized rods.
Blanks were shortened, modified, adjusted again and tested repeatedly until the rod behaved exactly the way it was supposed to.
Yes, back then – just as today – there were no blanks specifically made for casting sport.
Everything had to be built and tested from scratch.
For these experiments grips, reels and even the guides were often attached to the blank with tape.
That way every idea could be tested quickly and changed again immediately.
Through this process the first real understanding developed:
why a rod actually works the way it does, what must be considered, and which solutions become possible when everything is taken into account.
Later other questions followed:
How can handle assemblies be improved?
How are clean thread wraps created?
And how do you achieve a finish that gives a rod its distinctive character?
